Why this site exists
Claims about which NHS does better get made every week, often with numbers that are years out of date. This site puts the current evidence in one place, with its sources and limits on show.
Who runs it
I’m Chris Seenan, a physiotherapy academic and health researcher based in Glasgow. I started this site because claims about which NHS does better often rest on old or mismatched numbers, and I wanted the current evidence in one place, with its sources and limits on show.
This is an independent personal project and isn’t connected to my employer. It is not affiliated with NHS Scotland, NHS England, any government or any political party.
Principles
- Sources first. Every figure links to the official statistics or independent analysis it comes from.
- Dates on everything. Each figure shows the period it covers and when it was last checked.
- Like for like, or flagged. Where the two countries measure things differently, we say so on the figure itself.
- No side taken. The aim is to describe what the evidence shows, including where it is uncomfortable for either government.
Corrections policy
If you think a figure is wrong, out of date or unfairly framed, please get in touch with the figure and a link to your source. Corrections are made as soon as they are checked and are always recorded on the updates page with the date and what changed.
